Ti kouka – Room 6,

Year 1 and 2

Ashleigh Kulwant

Kia ora,
Ko Ashleigh Kulwant taku ingoa. I am the Year 1 and 2 teacher in Ti Kouka (Room 6). This year is my first year teaching, and I feel very lucky to be able to do this here at Houghton Valley School. I really love the school community and its beautiful environment.

My background before teaching was in Mental Health and Psychology, and I moved into Education as I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of New Zealand’s tamariki, and I felt that being a teacher provided me with the best opportunity to do this on a daily basis!

When I’m not at school, I am likely to be found exploring Wellington, visiting the local beaches, going for walks and checking out the amazing cafes that are around! I am originally from Auckland, and have only been in Wellington for a year so am still finding the hidden gems – please let me know if you have any recommendations! I also have a big family so am often found video-calling one of my many siblings (there are 5 of them!).

I’m so happy to get to be a part of this wonderful school’s community, please feel free to say hello if you see me. I would love to get to know you all!

My name is Rekha Tiwari and I am a part time teacher at HVS.  I will be teaching in Ti Kouka class every other Thursday.  I will be also releasing classroom teachers when needed throughout the school.

My family have been part of the Houghton Valley Community since 2000 as our 3 boys moved through Houghton Valley Playcentre and then through Houghton Valley School and now onto SWIS, Rongotai and Wellington High.

I can honestly say that I am proud of our school and community.  I think we do a fabulous job in bringing up well rounded people.  I feel very fortunate to be now working in this idyllic place with such a dedicated and hard-working team.
