Room 6, Year 3
Kia ora koutou te whanau
I am the longest-serving member of staff at Houghton Valley School and my history with this wonderful place actually began way, way back in 1992. I was at the Wellington College of Education and was fortunate enough to get a student teaching placement in the Ngaio year 6 classroom with Mr. John Reynolds, (now Principal of Roseneath School in Mount Victoria). I fell in love with Houghton Valley from that time on.
I was officially hired for a permanent position in 1995 and have worked in various roles at Houghton Valley over a period of 16 years. There were some breaks in between, to work in other parts of the country and to have my children, but I have always returned to our wonderful school and great community.
I have taught at almost all the levels within the school and 2015 sees me teaching back with year 2 students, which I am really enjoying. I trained as a Reading Recovery teacher and had a year 2 class for three years.
I am in a senior management role at Houghton Valley as a Deputy Principal and I support the Junior Syndicate and oversee aspects of the curriculum and the Taha Māori programme. I really enjoy the challenge, fun and variety of working with young people and every day is different and interesting.
